Microsoft Surface Studio 2 Review

Design of Microsoft Surface Studio 2

Thanks to the special design, Surface Studio can be folded and turned into a giant easel. But, despite all the past innovations, Microsoft in the past model for some reason used an outdated processor and not fast enough graphics.

At this time, the work on the mistakes did qualitatively, Surface Studio 2 is significantly different from its predecessor. Now we have a choice of several top processors, fast memory and improved Nvidia graphics. The only drawback of such a monoblock is its high cost and the impossibility of subsequent modernization.

Features and changes

Externally, the second generation of Surface Studio is not very different from its predecessor – it’s all the same candy bar in a gray magnesium alloy casing. The body here is extremely thin, with a 28-inch display and a metal stand. The design still pleasantly surprises and attracts the eye, although 2 years have passed since the announcement. But there are a lot of changes inside.

Now there are two options to choose from Nvidia GTX 1060 or 1070, and this is a big plus and the ability to play modern games. I was lucky to test the Microsoft Surface Studio 2 model with GTX 1070 graphics, which produced from 90 to 150 fps in Forza Horizon 4 at a resolution of 1440p and maximum settings.

I think Studio 2 is unlikely to be taken specifically for the games, so these comments are purely subjective. But, I would not mind testing a monoblock with the GTX 1080, if it appears. With the greatest need, you can connect an external video card via Thunderbolt 3 and this will solve many issues.

This is a great device for watching videos, however, the panel is more suitable for working with media editors and complex applications. I do not get to the target audience of such a device, but even I was interested to work on Surface Studio 2 and write a review about it. For several days of tests, I came to the conclusion that this is one of the most convenient universal computers, you will hardly want to go back to standard solutions.

Due to the fact that the update of Microsoft Surface Studio has become more powerful, not even at maximum performance, the device is noticeably faster than the previous model. In the PC Mark 8 test, the monoblock managed to score 1,000 points more, and in the 3D Mark Sky Diver, the results were twice as good.
