Panasonic Lumix S1R
Lumix S1R costs about $ 3,700, which is about 240,000 rubles, and that’s just for the camera. Clearly, this is not the most popular model, but I decided to find out for whom it was released and why it is so expensive.

Pixel chase
However, the Panasonic Lumix S1R does not have a 187-megapixel native resolution. This crazy figure is achieved by gluing 8 frames into one, shifting the 47-megapixel sensor with high resolution by half the pixel width and combining the results into one image. Naturally, this will require a tripod.
This approach allows increasing the spatial resolution by 4 times, as well as to obtain complete information about the RGB color in each pixel for more accurate color reproduction, bypassing the limitations of the Bayer filter design. However, a RAW file will weigh more than 300 MB.
Design and construction
Lumix S1R is built on a Leica L-mount, just like the S1. This is Panasonic’s first serious step in the category of full-frame cameras. The model also impresses with its protected case with a huge electronic viewfinder. There are slots for SD and XQD cards, with direct access control (as on a professional DSLR).
However, the S1R is bigger and heavier than its mirrorless counterparts, it is even heavier than the powerful Nikon D850 digital SLR.
Modes and features
Maybe the high-resolution mode is one of the most interesting options for the Panasonic Lumix S1R, but otherwise, this camera steps far ahead of the competition. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) received an OLED panel with 5.76 million pixels, which is several million more than the best cameras from Canon, Nikon, and Sony.
Individual pixels are almost invisible on the small display of the exposure meter. It also received an excellent increase of 0.78x and can be updated at a speed of 120 frames per second. In work, it is enjoyable and becomes the main advantage in a dispute with optical viewfinders.
Lumix S1R also has a 6K and 4K photo mode at 30 and 60 fps, allowing us to get the perfect shot. You can use the function “Post Focus” to fix the frame at any focal length, and after shooting to select the level of depth.
As in S1, the S1R uses a 5-axis sensor stabilization system that works in conjunction with lens stabilization, providing up to 6-degrees of jitter reduction. It comes with the task, although in the Olympus OM-D E-M1X stabilization is better – up to 7.5 steps.
Camera autofocus
Panasonic made an ambiguous choice in favor of its own technology Depth from Defocus (DFD). Phase detection, to a greater or lesser extent, has become the gold standard for autofocus, as this not only gives information about whether the subject is in focus but also determines whether the image is focused from the front or rear.
In other words, the camera Panasonic Lumix S1R itself determines in which direction to rotate the lens to achieve fast focusing.
